I ordered these shoe to use hiking in Hawaii and they were amazing! I was hardly slipping around on the wet, slick mud!I have a pair of Merrill hiking shoes I got 10 or more years ago. I love them and have worn them so much they're falling apart, and for the past year I've been searching unsuccessfully for their replacement. Apparently Merrill doesn't make that exact shoe anymore, but none of the other shoes - Merrill or others - I tried felt even remotely as comfy as my old pair. Until these. They're incredibly light (probably because of the mesh covering, which I don't love, but for hot summer days I suppose they'll be ok), comfortable support, and for someone with mini-bunions, these shoes don't hurt my feet at all. As I said, I don't love the mesh - I'm thinking small pieces of leaves, dirt, etc. will find their way into my shoes...time will tell. But they're so comfortable and I had such a hard time finding comfortable hiking shoes that I hate to return them for fear of not finding another pair. That said, I also purchased the Merrell Women's Moab FST 2 waterproof hiking shoe for comparison, and I'm keeping those, too. They're waterproof (or resistant, more likely), but I wanted to see how they stacked up. Just as comfy, although it's a heavier, less flexible (but still flexible) shoe. No mesh like these, which I like better. So maybe now I'll have a summer and a winter hiking shoe. So glad to have found replacements for my old faves! The Merrell Choprock is a fairly nice looking, lightweight, flexible, water type shoe. It runs very large - a half size to a full size large. And there is very little, if any, arch support. It does have a removable insole.Merrell has this "Choprock" and they also have a "Choprock Shandal". I almost did not realize they were two different shoes when I first was looking at them because they both come in the exact same colors. The "Choprock" is a tennis shoe with a mesh type upper. The "Choprock Shandal" has cut-outs on the side instead of all mesh. They are very similar so keep that in mind if you're ordering, and definitely size down.I ordered two different styles of Merrell shoes (the MQM Flex and the Choprock), both in a size 9.5. The MQM Flex was too small and the Choprock was too large. It may be time for me to start looking for a different brand. Merrell usually fits me really well and their sizing is typically consistent (but I do size up a half a size from some other brands). But ordering two different styles in the same size as I have always ordered and having neither fit is very frustrating. Sizing should be consistent in a brand and returning is a hassle, so I won't be re-ordering the Choprock in a smaller size.Comfortable and fit well, but definitely holds sand, a lot of sand. The concept of this shoe is just what I wanted, but unfortunately they aren’t comfortable. The mesh is very stiff, and I am unable to wear these barefoot without them rubbing (both the mesh, and other parts of the shoe aren’t especially kind to bare feet). The mesh is also larger than I was hoping, and still lets in debris that needs to be cleaned out, which defeats the reason I wanted this style over my keens that are more open. Wearing these with socks is ok, but the foot bed lacks enough support for me. My feet and legs were sore after walking around all day, which is not the case with my keens. While the aggressive tread is a good idea, this tread collects rocks that get stuck with annoying frequency. I like the substantial toe guard, and that my feet can breathe and stay fairly cool for such an enclosed shoe. I ordered my regular size, and they fit as expected. If I hadn’t worn these, I would send them back. The show runs big so order a half size down. They are rough on the feet the first couple times wearing them but once worn in they are great shoes for water/hiking through woods.I took these on a trip to Hawaii and they were great for trails, mud, water crossings, swimming. Highly recommend them for hikes that have water. I also find them very comfortable and will hike in them in dry conditions too. However, I also bought my wife a pair and they didn’t seem to fit her as well. She found them uncomfortable and we returned her pair before the trip. The tread on these shoes is unlike any other. I love them!!great buy.As a pull on and lace up shoe, the insoles pop right out when taking these off and are tricky to slide back in. Perhaps the ones I received are defective. Never had this with another pair of Merrells before. These were a great buy! Exactly as pictured! Brand new, in box with packaging. They fit perfect, I am a 6 1/2. Really quick shipping. Very happy!
